Facebook Locations Pages for Franchises
Although Facebook was founded more than 10 years ago in February 2004, it can still be pretty confusing for franchises and businesses with multiple locations to fully understand and utilize. However, if your page clearly hasn’t been updated in weeks, months, or even years—you run the risk of leaving potential customers skeptical and disappointed. This can happen easily since franchisees are oftentimes waiting for approval before posting content or franchisors don’t have as much control over the franchise pages as they want or need. Also, franchise Facebook marketing can present problems if both parties aren’t using a social media marketing strategy that is cohesive and uniform across the multiple locations. So, how do you make the most of this popular social media platform?
Well, if you own a franchise or a business with multiple offices or locations, there is one feature you should absolutely take advantage of: Facebook Locations pages.
Have you ever been searching for a store or a business in your area on Facebook, only to have the search results provide several different versions of the company’s page? How do you pick the right one? And who has the time to waste trying to figure it out?
In this blog post, I’ll explain what Facebook Locations pages are, why franchises should be using them, and how to set them up. If you already know you need to request locations access for your franchise Facebook pages, go ahead and contact us for help with your franchise marketing today!
What Are Facebook Locations Pages?
Facebook Locations pages allow you to create a “parent-child” Facebook page, using the Locations tab. This means you’ll have one main page, known as the “parent” page, and then secondary pages, known as the “child” pages, stemming from that page. This is especially significant for franchisee and franchisor Facebook pages so they can have one root page for the corporate franchise or brand with many location pages for each franchisee business location.
With Facebook parent-child locations pages, the main page will not have a physical address listed. If you want to convert a current location-specific page to your new parent page, any existing addresses can be edited or removed during this process.
Here’s an example of a home design, build, and remodeling company that is taking advantage of Facebook Locations pages for their two offices in New Hampshire.
As you can see, once you click the Locations tab on the left-hand side of the page, under their profile picture, a map comes up with their various locations. This company has a Salem and Amherst location, so pages for those addresses have already been created and linked from the Locations tab. When you click on the pins on the maps, the names of those pages are displayed so you can easily click to visit them straight from the main page.
Why Should I Request Locations Access for My Franchise Facebook Pages?
One of the most important reasons for utilizing Facebook for multiple locations is to create a sense of uniformity across your franchise’s multiple pages. Brand consistency is incredibly valuable and can provide a professional appeal to potential customers and curious users alike.
Additionally, Facebook Locations pages allow for easier control and maintenance of various pages. Once you’ve added your desired destinations, you can select an option that will publish all posts from your parent page onto your locations pages as well. This not only improves brand consistency—it also makes your life much easier by not having to individually schedule or publish posts on various pages.
How to Set Up Facebook Locations for Franchise Marketing
The process for requesting locations access on Facebook is an ever changing one. With new features and tools constantly appearing, it might look different for you depending on when you send your Facebook Locations request.
Before you do anything else, you must request locations access from Facebook. If that’s not successful or proves to be too complicated, you might have to contact the Facebook Support team directly. This is a process that can take a matter of days—or sometimes, even longer.
Once you’ve been granted locations access, you’ll have to either edit your existing pages to create the parent-child setup we talked about earlier, or you’ll have to create completely new pages to link from your new main page.
When searching for those pages to link from the locations tab on your franchise’s parent Facebook page, you can either select an existing one from the drop down menu or create a new one.
If you have many different locations pages, you can upload them using the “Import Multiple Locations” option in the Settings menu.
Moving forward, you’ll want to make sure your business hours, “About Me” descriptions, photos, and any other prominent descriptions or visual aspects are correct and in alignment with your franchise’s standards or branding.
Are You Ready to Start Using Facebook for Multiple Locations?
Between requesting locations access, creating new pages or editing existing ones, contacting Facebook support, and making sure your posts are interesting, accurate, and professional—this process can prove to be quite strenuous and stressful.
I can tell you from firsthand experience, this isn’t a transition you’re going to be able to make quickly and then cross off your to-do list. It’s going to take time to gather the necessary information that Facebook requires to grant you locations access. Then, the approval process will be another waiting game. By the time you can successfully link your locations pages from your parent page, you might not be able to find them on the dropdown menu we showed you earlier. Then what?
