Are Google+ & Google My Business the Same?
Google+ never really took off as the social network Google wanted it to be, but it’s still critically important to local businesses. That’s because the information in Google+ is what customers see when using Google Search or Google Maps.
Google My Business (GMB) is the command center and hub of your Google presence. It’s not a completely separate thing from Google+, but rather an interface where you can manage your Google+ info (and more).
Want to update your business address or hours? Check your site stats in Google Analytics? Make a quick post to Google+? You can do all these things from Google My Business.
Manage Your Google+ Activity from the Google My Business Dashboard
Consider Google+ to be merely one part of your business’s Google experience (the social aspect). The Google My Business dashboard includes options to post updates and access your Google+ page whenever you wish. The main GMB dashboard has a quick link to post an update, and the upper-left menu contains a link to Google+.
Many things that you see at business.google.com are actually connected to Google+. Your tagline, photos, and other such content spreads across your Google+ presence.
Additional Features of Google My Business
Besides managing your Google+ info, some other things you can do in GMB include:
- Use “Insights” for data on followers, pageviews, and the individual performance of Google+ posts
- Read and respond to customer reviews
- Manage the address and phone numbers of multiple business locations
- Set special business hours for holidays
- Connect your YouTube account and get stats for your videos
- Add “Managers” so multiple employees can sign into Google My Business and manage your account
Why Isn’t My Info Showing Up Correctly On Google?
Some business owners may encounter outdated or incorrect information about their business when using Search or Maps. In other cases, you might find that you had an old Google+ page but it isn’t connected to your Google My Business page because you have used different login details or changed physical locations, and Google didn’t know to merge and update the information correctly.
Two things to note: if you were using a regular, individual Google+ account intended for a person, not a business, your old Google+ account may not have automatically migrated. And if you have created a Google+ Brand page without a physical location, you won’t find your business in Google Maps.
It’s very important to keep consistency across all of Google. The best way to do this: sign up at Google My Business if you haven’t already. Verify your business and thoroughly fill out all the information. Then look for duplicate or incorrect listings and contact Google to get them removed (or ask for our help!).
